I actually created these two when I was still in school. Then made this contest, and I thought it would be the perfect debut for these two.
It was Student-Teacher week and I was teaching 4th year mythology, so in my spare time between classes I drew the characters of the flower myths (the stories of Narcissus, Hyacinthus and Adonis).
One of my favorites was Apollo. Then after some research I made his twin, Artemis. And from that I guess they grew and gained personalities based on research coupled with inspiration. And I must admit I love them to bits.
Made and colored in the traditional way, with inks and colored pencil. Also made it brighter in Photoshop because our scanner kills colors, and also added the glow/shine/thingy.
They're represented in their teens here, I think maybe 17. Also, they sort of have "a love for each other that goes beyond what is legal"(as my dear friend would say). Sort of incest-ish, yeah. But nothing too weird, just cuddling and hugging at most maybe. Also, it's Greek myth so it's kind of "normal".
They remind me a lot of the Vocaloids, Kagamine Len and Rin (another pair of very cute blondes).
So yeah, I'm gonna ramble a bit about them in the following paragraphs.. >___<
Artemis
She's the older of the pair, and by far the tougher and more masculine, in my opinion. She's sort of a tsundere (or whatever you may call it), not very open with her emotions and often denying what happens to slip out. She also blushes a lot around Apollo.
She's very protective and sweet, but can sometimes be brutish (based on her Greek myth profile) and rough. She's a good hunter and uses the bow and arrow like her brother.
(Btw, random Artemis trivia: she asked their father, I think it was Zeus to make her immune to Cupid/Love. So considering that she doesn't want to fall for any man there must be a reason for that. And here I am assuming that she already loves her brother so she doesn't need anyone else. Just my own opinion though XD)
Apollo
The younger yet more refined and sensible of the pair. He is more feminine in appearance and manner (in my drawings at least), in the sense that he is more down to earth and dainty(?) being the god of Truth and Justice. He's very open and affectionate, but tends to be serious about it. Well, maybe serious in a playful way, if something like that exists. Also he has that kind of smile that says he has something deep in mind (kind of like Fai from TRC).
He's also very good at the bow and affectionate to the people he loves. He has a more gentle and serene aura about him but he's the sort of brother you wouldn't have a hard time approaching.
(Btw, another random trivia about Apollo: In the myth about Orion, one version says that Apollo was the one who plotted or caused his death mainly because Orion was getting too close to Artemis, in a way that her dear brother didn't like. So here I am again assuming that Apollo loves his sister so much that he doesn't want anyone else to.)
Well, guess that's it for now, very short description of them since I have a headeache. I'm hoping to see more of these two and my other beloved Mythology characters(wait till you see Narcissus and the two other Flower Boys XD).
Hope you like them! Feedback is greatly appreciated. ^__^ (currently being inspired by all the Vocaloid songs I'm hearing *coughAliceHumanSacrificecough*)
Hey, a great image and an interesting background story to follow it up too! I love the composition and execution of the piece, and also the colouring is fantastic and suitable for what the deities stand for
